Students Win Free Trip to Africa

7 Muskegon Students Win Free Trip to Africa After Black History Month Essay Contest

Seven students from Muskegon, Michigan are heading to Ghana and Egypt this June, thanks to the Kids Free Trip to Africa program. The students won the opportunity by writing standout essays during Black History Month.

“Our mission is to break down barriers and open doors for these deserving kids,” said Paul Allen Billings, founder of the program and WUVS 103.7 The Beat.

For most of the students, this will be their first time leaving the country. They’ll visit historic and cultural sites like the Elmina Slave Castle in Ghana and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Since 2017, the program has sent over 40 students to Africa—all at no cost. Donations to support the 2025 trip can be made at: gofundme.com/f/2025-kids-free-trip-to-africa.
