Galveston to Host Special Stage Play “Baby Boy” in Honor of Juneteenth’s 160th Anniversary
As the birthplace of Juneteenth, Galveston will proudly commemorate the holiday’s 160th anniversary with a powerful theatrical production. On Saturday, June 21, 2025, audiences are invited to attend the stage play “Baby Boy” at The Grand 1894 Opera House, located at 2020 Postoffice Street in Galveston, Texas.
Written, directed, and produced by Tre’ Floyd of Atlanta, Georgia, Baby Boy is a compelling Juneteenth-themed play exploring themes of identity, family, and healing. Known for his emotional storytelling and raw stage direction, Floyd’s work continues to resonate with audiences across the country.
This special Juneteenth production is presented by Connections in Texas and sponsors dedicated to uplifting Black arts and cultural expression.
The curtain rises at 7:00 PM for what promises to be a moving tribute to freedom, legacy, and resilience—marking a century and a half since enslaved Texans learned they were free.
