STAAR Tests Happening This Week While Changes to Texas Education Are Also Happening in Austin for 2023 Legislation
Hello SAISD Parents,
Sam Houston High School students will take their STAAR tests this week. All students must bring their laptops and chargers to school from the 2nd -16th to take their tests. The testing schedule starts on the 6th with English 1 and U.S. History, then on the 7th, Algebra 1 and Biology; this day will also be a makeup day for those that need to retest for English 1 and U.S. History. On the 8th, students will take English II; this will also be a makeup date for those who didn’t pass Algebra, Biology, English 1 and U.S.History. 12/8 will be a makeup day for English 1 and English II. Lastly, the 12th -16th will be makeup days for Biology, Algebra, and U.S. History.
I understand that these days are stressful, so please ensure your students get some rest and eat a good breakfast. Parents, these STAAR tests play an essential role in your child’s graduation. So, to all of our students, please take your time and remember to read the questions carefully and look for clue words.
Lastly, our Lt. Governor Patrick is again pushing for significant changes in our educational system. It seems that we will face the school voucher idea again, and he will push for a reform to end tenure at public universities. This idea would make it hard for schools to find facilities. These are just a few of his priorities for this upcoming 2023 Legislation. Parents, as our politicians try once again to change our educational laws and curriculum, know that I will keep you updated.
Have a Blessed Week,
Lena Lopez
