Spurs Stumble in Minnesota Despite Wemby’s Big Night

Another 30+ point game from Victor Wembanyama wasn’t enough to lift the Spurs, who fell 112-110 to the Timberwolves

Despite another 30 point performance by VDub, the Spurs fell to 16-16 and 10th in the Western Conference following Sunday’s road loss to Minnesota.

Wembanyama led San Antonio with 34 points and eight rebounds as the Silver and Black fell 112-110. Harrison Barnes had 24 points, Devin Vassell added 22 and Chris Paul dished out a game high 14 assists.

Although Anthony Edwards was held to 14 points; 11 below his season average, the Spurs had no answer for Donte DiVencenzo who led the Timberwolves with 26 points. Rudy Gobert had 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who won their third straight game. Julius Randle had 16 points, while Jaden McDaniels added 12 points and 10 boards for Minnesota.

While both teams only committed 10 turnovers each, The Timberwolves out rebounded  the Spurs 56-41, including 18 offensive rebounds to 8.

The Spurs can’t seem to get on a roll as of late going 5-5 over their last ten games and 6-7 for the month of December. If they can find their groove they are poised to move up in the Western Conference where they are 13-13 against Western Conference foes. Just 2.5 games separates them from the 5th place Lakers who are 18-13.

The Spurs close out 2024 by hosting the Clippers New Year’s Eve at the Frost Bank Center.

Let’s hope the Silver and Black bring in the New Year with a win.
