The Spurs are 2-3 on this year’s Rodeo Road Trip following Monday’s win against the Wizards.
The Silver and Black defeated Washington 131-121 behind VDub’s 31 points and 15 rebounds. He also had three blocks in the contest. The team shot 51% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc, while holding the Wizards to 30% on 14-47 on three point field goals.
Newly acquired De’Aaron Fox added 30 points and six assists in his 4th game since joining the team. Rookie guard Stephon Castle chipped in 16 points.
All nine players that entered the game for Washington scored in double figures led by Tristan Vuckevic’s 18 points off the bench.
The Spurs are 2-2 since acquiring Fox before last week’s trade deadline. 3 out 4 of those games were decided by a single point.
Monday’s win was an important game as the Spurs eye a potential playoff berth in the Western Conference. The Wizards came into Monday’s contest as the worst team in the league and the Spurs took full advantage. At 23-28 the team sits in twelfth place in the West, two and a half games behind Phoenix and three games behind Golden State in the tenth and final play-in spot. If they plan to make a run at the post season, games like Monday’s game are must wins.
The Spurs have seven games left on the road before returning to the Frost Bank Center on March 2nd against the Grizzlies. 5 out of 6 of those opponents have records above .500 so the Silver and Black will have their work cut out for them.
