“They Are Scary Good”: Spurs 1st in Western Conference

San Antonio Spurs Undefeated Through Four Games as V-Dub Leads the Charge

Let me start this week off by saying the Spurs are a problem.

For only the third time in franchise history and the first time since 2017 the Spurs open the season 4-0 after defeating the Toronto Raptors 121-103 Monday night at the Frost Bank Center.

V-Dub led the way with 24 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and 10 of 10 from the line. He also added 15 rebounds in Monday’s contest. Second year man Stephon Castle chipped in 22 points while rookie guard Dylan Harper had 11 points and a team high 6 assists.

The squad opened the season in dominating fashion blasting the Mavericks 125-92 in Dallas. The Spurs also picked up wins on the road against the Pelicans (120-116) and at home against the Nets (118-107).

Wembanyama, who was named Western Conference player of the week earlier Monday, has been a savage through the first four games averaging 33 points on 57% shooting, 13 rebounds, and a league leading six blocks a game. He also garnered another “first”, he’s the first player in league history to have 100+ points and 15+ blocks through the first three games of a season. Is it too early to say MVP?

From a team standpoint the squad has gotten back to its defensive roots. With V-Dub anchoring the defense the Spurs are first in the league in opponents ppg allowing 105 a contest. They are second in the league in opponents field goal percentage holding opponents to only 40% from the field.

The Spurs have been just as effective on the other side of the ball. The Silver and Black are shooting 51% from the field as a team which ranks fourth in the league. They lead the association in points differential at +16 a game.

Although it’s early the Silver and Black are first in the the Western Conference after the first four games. The team has also been without All-NBA point guard De’Aaron Fox who’s been sidelined with a thumb injury.

I picked the team to finish sixth in the conference prior to the season but this team is scary good….they just might surprise us all.
