Spurs Push to 8-2 With Wemby’s Record-Breaking Night

Spurs Hold Off Chicago 121-117 as Wembanyama Delivers a Historic Performance

The Spurs overcame a rough shooting night from beyond the arc going 10-33 to move to 8-2 following Monday’s 121-117 road win against the Bulls.

V-Dub led all scorers with 38 points, including 18 points in the fourth quarter. He became the first player in NBA history with at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five blocked shots and five 3-pointers in a game. The Spurs big man is averaging 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks on the season through the first ten games.

De’Aaron Fox scored 21 points for the Spurs in his second game back from injury after scoring 24 points in his season debut this weekend against New Orleans. Stephon Castle had a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists, while Luke Kornet finished with 16 points.

Chicago for their part were without Josh Giddy who was out with an ankle injury. Kevin Huerter led the Bulls with 23 and former Spur Tre Jones chipped in 20 points, seven rebounds and, and seven dimes.

The Spurs are second in the Western Conference just a game and a half behind defending Champion Oklahoma City Thunder. They’ve now won their last three games. The team opened the season 5-0 before dropping two consecutive road games to the Suns (118-130) and Lakers (116-118).

The team continues to be one of the best teams in the association on the defensive side of the ball. They rank fourth in opponents ppg at 110.7 while holding opponents to 45% shooting from the field which ranks sixth amongst all teams.

The Spurs will look to continue their winning ways Wednesday when they face the Warriors (5-5) at home for the first game of a two game home-home stand against the boys from the bay.
