Observer Spurs Beat – The Pre-Season Preview, “A Bright Future in the River City”

Pre-Season Outlook: Spurs at 1-2, A Bright Future Ahead For The River City

The V Dub era of Spurs basketball is finally upon us. While the Spurs are 1-2 this preseason, with losses coming to the Thunder and Rockets; there is much to be excited about.

Through patience and a stroke of good luck, the Spurs landed a generational phenom in Victor Wembanyama. I’ll admit that I was skeptical about going all in on a 19 year old kid from France but….you mix him in with a solid bunch of young kids that spent last year taking lumps, you have the makings of a really good basketball team.  That being said…The other’s led by Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell should be direct beneficiaries of V Dub’s presence on the court.

KJ led the Spurs last year in scoring while Devin Vassell chipped in a very respectable 18.5 ppg. It should be noted that Vassell is coming into the season fresh off of signing a 5 year $135 million dollar contract extension with $11 million dollars in incentives. Devin will have 11 million reasons to step his game up.  Zach Collins, Malaki Branham, and Jeremy Sochan should make significant contributions as well. Oh and let’s not forget the wildcard….Pop. I think it’s safe to say the guy knows how to produce hall of famers (he’s got 4 under his belt with Dave, Tim, Tony, and Manu). As far as V Dub…what more needs to be said about a 7’4 kid with a jump shot and a crossover? The future is definitely bright in the River City.
