Spurs Miss Playoffs Fifth Season in a Row, Focus Shifts to Rebuilding and Evaluation
For the fifth consecutive season the Silver and Black will be casual onlookers when the playoffs start as they’ve been eliminated from contention last week.
Still bottom dwelling as the worst team in the Western Conference, the Spurs come into this week 14-51 after Monday’s home loss to the Golden State Warriors 112-102. The loss comes on the heels of a 126-113 road win against the same Warriors on Friday night, a game in which VDub was inactive due to an ankle injury.
The Silver and Black were 0-7 in games without VDub prior to Friday’s victory.
VDub posted his 34th double-double of the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds in his return after missing the last two games with the aforementioned ankle sprain. It was the first time in his young career that he’s had to sit consecutive games. Devin Vassell added 17 points in 37 minutes while Keldon Johnson chipped in 16 points in 30 minutes off the bench.
Monday’s game was the first of an eight game home stand. Being out of playoff contention, the Spurs will use this last month of the season to evaluate its personnel and hopefully begin formulating a better plan for next season.
