“Battling Adversity: Spurs’ Struggles, VDub’s Historic Feats, and the Unyielding Spirit Amidst a Record Losing Streak”
Despite holding the Rockets to 34% from the field and 93 points, the Spurs could not overcome their offensive struggles in their 93-82 loss to the Rockets Monday night in Houston.
The Spurs shot 35% from the field and a horrendous 12% from beyond the arc on 5-41 sooting. Just in case you missed that….12% from beyond the arc on 5-41 three pointers. I suppose nobody thought to stop shooting, who knows. VDub did post another double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds in the L.
The loss sets a new franchise record for consecutive losses at seventeen…and counting (the next 2 games are a home and home stand against the Lakers). It is also the longest losing streak of Coach Popovich’s distinguished career.
The Spurs tied the franchise record for consecutive losses at sixteen Friday night at home against the Bulls, despite holding an 11-point halftime lead.
The Silver and Black are now 3-19; their worst start in franchise history through 22 games, and last in the Western Conference.
On a positive note….VDub continues to make history for the Spurs. At 19 years and 338 days, he became the youngest player in NBA history with a game of 20 points and 20 rebounds after posting 21 points and 20 rebounds in Friday’s loss to the Bulls. He also became the only player in history to tally at least 350 points, 50 assists, 50 blocks and 25 steals through the first 20 games of his career.
Despite the mounting losses the sensational rookie remains positive. “Of course it´s not easy, but we don´t have a choice,” he said after Monday’sloss.
“Keep going, keep grinding. The good thing is nobody doubts that in the long run we´re going to be the winners. … I hate losing, but I stay focused on the long run goal.”
