Instacart, DoorDash, Gopuff Launch Discounts for SNAP Recipients

Instacart & Gopuff Offers 50% Off Grocery Orders for SNAP Users

Instacart announced Friday it will provide customers who use SNAP benefits a 50% discount on their next grocery order to ease the strain as the federal government prepares to suspend food aid payments.

Any customer who placed an Instacart order in October using a SNAP/EBT card will qualify for the discount, even if SNAP payments continue as planned on Nov. 1. The company also plans to triple the number of food banks it supports through online drives—from 100 to 300—amounting to $5 million in direct relief.

“As SNAP funding faces unprecedented disruption and food banks brace for longer lines, we’re focused on practical, immediate solutions: helping families who use SNAP stretch their grocery dollars and helping food banks stock up to support their communities,” said Dani Dudeck, Instacart’s chief corporate affairs officer.

DoorDash Waives Fees and Donates One Million Meals

San Francisco-based DoorDash said it will waive service and delivery fees for around 300,000 orders placed by SNAP recipients in November. The company has partnered with 25 grocery retailers—including Sprouts, Dollar General, Giant Eagle, Stop & Shop, Winn-Dixie, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and ShopRite—to make the program possible.

DoorDash also committed to delivering 1 million meals from food banks free of charge, citing that more than 2.4 million customers already have SNAP/EBT cards linked to their accounts.

Gopuff to Cover $50 in Groceries for SNAP Customers

Philadelphia-based delivery service Gopuff will offer $50 in free groceries this November to users with a SNAP/EBT card connected to their accounts, pledging up to $10 million toward the program.

Widespread Corporate Response to SNAP Uncertainty

The companies’ initiatives come in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s announcement that it will halt Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments starting Nov. 1 if the government shutdown continues. Food banks nationwide have already reported surging demand in anticipation of the cutoff.

Instacart began accepting SNAP payments online in 2020 and continues to expand access to digital grocery shopping for low-income families.
