Everyone’s Favorite Childhood Show Is Heading To Netflix

The Deal Announced Monday Comes Months After Warner Bros. Discovery Said It Was Not Renewing Its Deal With Sesame Street

After more than 50 years of shaping young minds, Sesame Street is gearing up for a major return—this time on Netflix. The iconic children’s show will debut its 56th season later this year with a revamped format, new adventures, and the same familiar faces. The move comes months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its deal with the series.

What to Expect in Season 56

According to Sesame Workshop, the new season will feature “fresh format changes” while still keeping fan-favorite segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. New episodes will center on one 11-minute story per episode, putting more spotlight on character-driven humor and heart.

Cookie Monster will open a brand-new Cookie Cart on the block, while Abby Cadabby’s Fairy Garden will introduce “surprising and delightful magical creatures.” The updated storytelling aims to keep longtime fans engaged while attracting a new generation of viewers.

PBS Still in the Picture

Despite the Netflix deal, Sesame Street isn’t going anywhere on public television. “New episodes will also release the same day on PBS Stations and PBS Kids platforms in the US,” the show confirmed in a post on X. That means the show’s long-standing relationship with PBS—spanning more than five decades—remains intact.

Global Reach and Public-Private Power

Library episodes and brand-new installments will roll out globally on Netflix in three batches. Sesame Workshop highlighted the significance of the collaboration, calling it “a unique public-private partnership.”

“The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder,” the show’s team shared.

Whether you’re tuning in from a tablet or a TV antenna, Sesame Street is still in the business of joy, education, and a whole lot of cookies.
