September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

This month is Suicide Prevention Awareness which means that if anyone needs help, they can reach out to someone at their school or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Also, beginning on Sept. 27 – October 8th parent-teacher conferences will be taking place. I encourage all parents to take this opportunity to reach out to their child’s teachers. It’s also essential to remember that this is the week right before the end of the first nine weeks. So if you see that your child is failing at any time, please reach out to their teachers before they fail. Parents, remember that we must all work together to make sure all of our children are successful.

Now, if a parent notices that their child seems depressed, please reach out to our district head counselor to find a way to help them find the right resources. As this pandemic continues, our children are dealing with many different emotions all at one time. We must remember that we are all going through some hard times as well. So reach out to someone to help you find the right resources that can help your family as well.

Parents, I understand that we all have rights, but if being vaccinated can help us deal with this pandemic, please reconsider getting the vaccine. We must remember that COVID has changed the way we live in so many ways, from our social interactions to going to the grocery stores. The idea of getting vaccinated is, of course, is your choice, but keep in mind it could save many lives. Parents, know that I truly respect all the rights that you have over your children. But if you choose not to get vaccinated, please allow your child to wear a mask while at school. If we work together, then we could help save lives, especially those that educate our children.

Lastly, we need to ensure that our children get all the help they can, as some have fallen behind academically. This means that if your child needs tutoring or other services, please ask their teachers for help. Also, if anyone has any questions or concerns about your child’s education, please email me at lena.lopez@saobserver.com.
