“I Think Comedy and Maybe the Limits That You Can Push Have Changed,” Regina Hall Says, Reflecting on Scary Movie Reboot
Regina Hall is stepping back into one of her most iconic roles, but she isn’t entirely convinced the world is ready for it. As Scary Movie 6 approaches its 2026 release, Hall admits she questioned whether the franchise’s outrageous, boundary-pushing humor could survive today’s culture.
“I think comedy and maybe the limits that you can push have changed,” Hall told Entertainment Weekly. “Could we even do Scary Movie 1 now? Can we hack this man? Can we have balls coming out? Can we have a d— in an ear? Boy, did we get to do it at a great time.”
Despite her doubts, Hall confirmed she recently wrapped filming the reboot alongside some of the original cast. What sealed the deal for her was the return of the Wayans brothers, who created the franchise but left after the early installments. Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans are officially back as writers and producers.
“When I heard about it, I was like, ‘Oh, wow,’” Hall said. “And then when I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, boy, the Wayans are back. They’ve done it again. [It’s] the only way [the reboot] works.”
Hall also revealed that her character Brenda is just as chaotic as ever and remains inseparable from Anna Faris’ Cindy. After her recent dramatic work in One Battle After Another, returning to the franchise’s loud, unhinged comedy felt surprisingly nostalgic.
“I’m really excited to do that kind of humor again,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “There’s a very specific type of broad humor that’s in Scary Movie. It means a lot that people want to see it 25 years later. I mean, that means more than anything.”
Scary Movie 6 is set to premiere in theaters on June 12, 2026. Whether society can take another round of the franchise’s signature shock comedy is still up for debate, but Regina Hall sounds prepared to find out.
