San Antonio’s Pothole Patrol Delivers Two-Day Turnaround

San Antonio’s Pothole Patrol Repairs Up to 80k Potholes a Year

The City of San Antonio’s Public Works Department (PWD) is tackling one of the most common roadway concerns head-on—potholes. With 16 dedicated Pothole Patrol crews divided evenly across the city’s quadrants, the team completes between 75,000 and 80,761 pothole repairs annually. Each crew is strategically stationed at the Northeast and Northwest service centers to maximize coverage and response time.

Much of this work begins with residents themselves. Using the city’s 3-1-1 system, residents generate an average of 500 calls each month to report potholes. Each request is automatically routed to the appropriate area for repair, with the City guaranteeing completion within two working days. It’s a promise that reflects San Antonio’s growing commitment to keeping streets safe, smooth, and well-maintained.

The Pothole Repair Program has undergone major changes in recent years, leading to measurable improvements in customer service, efficiency, and cost savings. These refinements have helped the department streamline operations and improve responsiveness to citizen feedback. According to the City, continued management efforts are focused on further process improvements to sustain this momentum.

City officials emphasize that public participation remains key.

“You drive, walk and bike on our streets each day,” the department notes. “Help us keep our roadways free of potholes—report them to 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000 as soon as you find them. The more potholes you report, the more potholes we can repair.”
