Taiwanese Advanced Manufacturing Delegation Meets Mayor Jones in San Antonio
San Antonio welcomed a Taiwanese advanced manufacturing delegation this week, as Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and regional leaders pitched the city’s strengths in electric vehicles (EV) and uncrewed aerial systems (drones).
“San Antonio had a job to do: show our Taiwanese guests that San Antonio is ready and willing to partner on advanced manufacturing opportunities, especially in the areas of electrical vehicles and drones. And, I’m proud to share that Team San Antonio—leaders from our business community, research institutions, and academia—hit it out of the park. I’m looking forward to next steps to capitalize on the momentum we’ve created.”
Taiwanese Leaders Signal Interest in San Antonio
The high-level Taiwanese delegation included Winner Yu, chairman of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA); Allen Cheng, Secretary General with Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs; Kay Lou, assistant vice president at Foxconn; Larry Chang of the Industrial Technology Research Institute; and James Wang of eYs3D Microelectronics.
Also present was Ms. Yvonne Hsiao, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, underscoring the diplomatic importance of the visit.
San Antonio Leaders at the Table
On the San Antonio side, Mayor Jones was joined by Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai, City Manager Erik Walsh, CPS Energy CEO Rudy Garza, SAWS CEO Robert Puente, Port San Antonio CEO Jim Perschbach, and Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. Together with leaders from Southwest Research Institute, Knight Aerospace, and greater:SATX, they presented San Antonio’s capabilities and opportunities for partnership.
Building a Path Forward
City and regional partners emphasized San Antonio’s unique position in the advanced manufacturing supply chain: workforce development led by Alamo Colleges, research at Southwest Research Institute, and large-scale industrial infrastructure at Port San Antonio.
The Taiwanese advanced manufacturing delegation visit sets the stage for follow-up talks aimed at EV production, drone applications, and cross-border R&D partnerships anchored in San Antonio’s growing innovation corridor.
