San Antonio to Celebrate Pride Month with Drag Shows, Parades, Philanthropy, Themed Markets, and More This June
While Pride celebrations began nationwide in 1970 following the Stonewall Riots of 1969, San Antonio’s Pride celebrations kicked off in 1982 at the Bonham Exchange, with the first large Pride parade in San Antonio taking place in 1998.
This year, San Antonio’s LGBTQIA community offers an array of events harkening back to Pride’s roots while looking forward to a bright future:
Pride & Pop Stars Candle Making
- June 1-15: At Mission Crafts Chandlery, create candles celebrating LGBTQIA musical icons. Proceeds benefit the THRIVE Youth Center, supporting the homeless LGBTQIA community in San Antonio.
PRIDE Pageant
- June 8, 7:30 p.m.: The Bonham Exchange hosts the 2024 PRIDE Pageant for amateur and professional drag performers, with special guests Paige Taylor and MC Alayna Marquez. Mister, Miss, Mr., and Ms. San Antonio Pride will be crowned.
Pride Night at Culture Commons Gallery
- June 13, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Latine drag kings Sir Gio and Gacho Marx perform, along with drag queen Jazmine Diamond Fillups. The event includes LGBTQIA poets and a printmaking workshop with artist Ernesto Olivio. Free to the public.
Out at the Tobin Pride Brunch
- June 15, 10:30 a.m.: The Tobin Center hosts a drag show brunch headlined by Ra’Jah O’Hara, with Kristi Waters hosting. Tickets start at $35, benefiting the THRIVE Youth Center.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas Pride After-Hours Splash
- June 15 and 22, 7 p.m. to midnight: Six Flags Fiesta Texas celebrates Pride with live music, dance areas, and specialty food and drinks at Hurricane Harbor. Combo tickets for both weekends are $39.99, waterpark-only tickets are $19.99.
San Antonio Pride Fest and Pride Bigger Than Texas
- June 29, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Crockett Park hosts San Antonio’s official Pride festival with food, performers, a drag queen high-heel race, and more. Tickets are $12 online, $15 at the gates, and free for those under 11 years old.
- 9 p.m.: The official Pride parade of San Antonio runs from Dewey Place to Maple Street downtown, free to view along the route.
