San Antonio Spurs Surprise the NBA With Fast Start, Six-Game Win Streak

Balanced Scoring, Strong Defense Fuel Spurs’ Six-Game Run

Anyone that knows me knows that I am not a Spurs fan, I’m a Cleveland guy through and through. As a result, I believe I can be objective in my coverage of the team. With that being said, this iteration of the team is REALLY good.

With just over one third of the season behind us, the Spurs are 21-7 and in second place in the Western Conference. I don’t believe anyone saw this coming. Prior to the season I predicted they’d finish in sixth place avoiding the play-in tournament, needless to say they are exceeding my expectations. Now grant it there’s still a lot of season left but this is a talented bunch….and DEEP with eight players averaging at least 11 points a game.

Following Sunday’s road win against the Wizards, the Spurs are riding the wave of a six game win streak; the longest current streak in the Association, and an Emirates NBA Cup Final.

De’Aaron Fox scored 27 points including five 3’s to lead the Silver and Black to a 124-113 victory over Washington.

Luke Kornet chipped in 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Stephon Castle added 18 points and 11 assists as the Spurs won their sixth in seven games and second in four days against Washington.

V-Dub; who is still coming off the bench as he works his way back from a left calf strain, had 14 points and 12 rebounds in under 22 minutes.

The Silver and Black delivered the knockout blow early outscoring Washington 43-21 in the second quarter and taking a 20-point lead into halftime. The Wizards never recovered and got no closer than nine points the remainder of the game.

If the Spurs can maintain I can say with almost certainty that the River City’s playoff drought is over. Who knows, my Uncle Jay just might live to see another parade.
