San Antonio-Area Events to Honor 9/11 Victims

This Wednesday marks the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Across the nation, people continue to uphold the promise to “Never forget,” honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the countless others forever impacted by the events of that tragic day.

Here’s a list of ceremonies and memorial events in the San Antonio area where you can pay tribute:

9/11 Memorial Climb by San Antonio 110

    • First responders from across the state and country will climb the Tower of the Americas twice, symbolically exceeding the height of the World Trade Center towers.
    • Date/Time: Sept. 11, 8 a.m.
    • Registration: Walk-in only ($65, cash only), check-in from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. (ID required).

    Freedom Walk at Canyon Lake Dam

      • Hosted by the Canyon Lake Professional Firefighters Association, the event includes a firefighter walk, a memorial ceremony, and the Freedom Walk across the dam.
      • Date/Time: Sept. 11, 8 a.m. for firefighter walk, 9 a.m. for ceremony and Freedom Walk.

      San Antonio College Patriot Day

        • The college and the First Responders Academy will host a memorial event outside the Chance Academic Center.
        • Date/Time: Sept. 11, 9 a.m.
        • Location: 1819 N Main Ave (SAC Mall).

        St. Mary’s University 9/11 Commemoration

          • A gathering followed by a prayer service at the Barrett Memorial Bell Tower.
          • Date/Time: Sept. 11, gathering at 2:45 p.m., prayer service at 3 p.m.
          • Location: 1 Camino Santa Maria.

          Travis Manion Foundation’s 9/11 Heroes Run

            • This community run honors the victims of 9/11.
            • Date/Time: Sept. 14, 7 a.m.
            • Location: Mission County Park, 6030 Padre Dr.
            • Registration details available online.

            Wagner High School 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

              • Judson ISD will hold a memorial ceremony to honor LTC Karen Wagner, a local hero who sacrificed her life during the 9/11 attacks.
              • Date/Time: Sept. 11, 9 a.m.
              • Location: 3000 North Foster Rd.

              Each of these events provides a chance for the community to come together and remember the legacy of those lost and the heroism shown on that day.
