SAM HOUSTON BAND – BEST BAND IN THE LAND

Sam Houston Band Returned to the Battle of the Bands at this Years Fiesta

Hello SAISD Parents. This week instead of going over the news that we are losing more teachers due to the lack of pay and the fact that they are suffering from exhaustion, let’s go over some good news. This week, after two years of no Fiesta Events, Sam Houston Band returned to the Battle of Bands and won First Place in the 4A division and Chairman’s Best Entertainment Award. The next two days, the band returned to the Fiesta Day Parade, amazed the fans and judges, and won Best Moves in Day Parade. Finally, as they began the Night Parade on Saturday, everyone was exhausted, yet they knew that the show must go on. As the night fell, the band came out and performed another great show. The Sam Houston Band is under the direction of Mr. Bruce Adams, along with the assistant band director Mr. Majors and Dr. Mustafa who trains our Flags Auxiliary Team.

When it comes to teaching the concept of teamwork and complex work ethics, these kids have some great role models within the band, from their directors to the band boosters. It’s genuinely unique that these directors make it work every year, no matter how many band members they have. This year, they may be small, but they’re genuinely mighty. Let’s give the Sam Houston Band Hurricanes, the Pride of the Eastside, a round of applause as they once again captured the hearts of all those across the city.

This month, most of our children have taken some of their STAAR’S testing, and some still have more testing coming up this May. Yet, we should also know that no matter how stressed and tired our teachers are, they are still hard at work trying to make a difference in their students’ lives.

Parents, just a reminder that this month our school will be out for our Easter Holiday on April 15th – 18th and will return to class on the 19th. Next week I will go over all the negative issues that teachers face daily, from the required 435 minutes per day of teaching to the lack of resources and pay. Until next week, please email me if you have any questions or concerns at lena.lopez@saobserver.com. Have a blessed week.
