This past week SAISD selected Dr. Robert Jaklich as our Interim Superintendent until they find a permeant replacement. Now Dr. Jaklich has served as superintendent for Victoria ISD, and he led Harlandale ISD before that. According to a statement made by our SAISD Board members, we believe that Dr. Jaklich has the experience and wisdom to assess situations, resulting in sound decision-making.” Then our SAISD Board President Christina Martinez “We are confident the district will continue to thrive under his leadership as the board plans to launch a search for a permanent replacement.” It seems that Dr. Jaklich is exceptionally caring, supportive, and cares about all schools, teachers, and students. This is according to past employees from both Victoria ISD and Harlandale. If he can get the job done, then hopefully, SAISD will consider making our permanent superintend. So, parents, let’s give Dr. Jaklich a big welcome a wish him well on this new educational journey.
Board members appointed Jaklich unanimously after hours of closed session discussion. Outgoing Superintendent Pedro Martinez will also transition to CEO of Chicago Public Schools the week of September 29 as well. Martinez was widely criticized by SAISD’s teacher and staff advocacy group, the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel. The group wrote in a letter that Martinez leaves behind a hollow district, and called for a community-involved search for a new district leader. San Antonio Alliance President Alejandra Lopez says she hopes the board engages everyone who’s going to be impacted by the new superintendent. She says that includes district staff, parents, students and community members.
