SAISD Repurposing Process and Meeting Schedule

SAISD to provide public information updates on repurposing process

SAISD News Release — San Antonio ISD has a Facilities Repurposing Panel that is guiding the district in determining the most appropriate use of schools closed as part of the November 2023 rightsizing decision and in previous school closures. SAISD is committed to repurposing facilities affected by rightsizing so that the buildings continue to benefit and serve the community.

The process will formally begin this fall once the district has made a formal hire of a consultant to manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Once the RFP process has opened, the panel will vet the proposal submissions and make recommendations to staff.

Throughout the repurposing process, the district will engage stakeholders to envision the new possibilities within our community. We are beginning to hold public information updates next week through a series of meetings at our comprehensive high schools to explain the repurposing process and its timeline.

This is the meeting schedule:

Aug. 27 (Tues), 6 p.m., Edison High School

Aug. 28 (Wed), 6 p.m., Highlands High School

Aug. 29 (Thurs), 6 p.m., Lanier High School

Sept. 3 (Tues), 6 p.m., Brackenridge High School

Sept. 4 (Wed), 6 p.m., Burbank High School

Sept. 5 (Thurs), 6 p.m., Sam Houston High School

Our families and community members again will be brought into the process during public engagement meetings when potential uses are being considered for specific facilities.

Additionally, when the Board of Trustees approved its ad hoc committee’s recommendations in the HVAC after-action report on May 13, 2024, the board instructed the superintendent to conduct another comprehensive study of excess facility capacity in SAISD’s school buildings by November 2025.
