SAISD RATINGS- HERES THE GRADES

SAISD School Ratings Reviewed and Updates on Legislation in Texas Public Schools

Hello SAISD Parents,

This week I wanted to review our Eastside schools rating from the Texas Education Agency. First, we will start with Sam Houston High school, whose overall rating this year was a B; the school also made some progress in academic reading and arts and is closing learning gaps. Davis Middle School didn’t receive a rating this year and they are no longer a Charter School per our SAISD board. MLK Academy received an overall rating of C; currently, SAISD has removed them from being an in-district charter school. Next, our Eastside elementary schools did okay with Gates receiving an overall B ranking and made achievements in mathematics, Post-Secondary Readiness, and also closed some learning gaps. Dorie Miller’s rating was a C overall in all areas, Cameron Elementary’s rating was a B, and their school is making significant progress. Lastly, P F Stewart scored a B, and they’re also making some progress.

Parents, these ratings include attendance, closing learning gaps in reading and math, and STAAR’S results. These ratings are given to each school across Texas. We must remember that all our schools, teachers, and staff are trying to help all their students become more successful in all subjects. Parents, please ensure our kids get to school every day on time and know that if your child is sick or has a doctor’s appointment to turn all notes in to the attendance office.

Lastly, as Texas Politicians began their debates in this year’s 88th legislation, they need help finding the correct answer on how we can help our teachers. If we want to keep our Public Schools open, we need to find a way to find and support teachers in our classrooms. So, this week if any teachers, staff, or parents would like to help us find the answers to these challenging questions, please email me at lena.lopez@saobeserver.com.

Please know that I will not use anyone’s name or personal information. Next week I will have some updates on what is going on with some of our educational bills. Until then stay safe and remember that as a community we can overcome all educational obstacles.

Have a Blessed Week,

Lena Lopez
