SAISD Facilities Repurposing Meetings Invite Community Input on Neighborhood Schools
The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is inviting families and neighbors to take part in a series of Facilities Repurposing Meetings designed to gather community feedback on the future of neighborhood school sites.
Each meeting will give residents the opportunity to tour facilities, hear presentations from organizations interested in repurposing the buildings, and most importantly, share input on which groups should advance to the next stage of consideration.
Meeting Schedule:
• Douglass: Saturday, October 25 at 9 a.m.
• Lamar: Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m.
• Brewer: Monday, October 27 at 5 p.m.
• Gonzales: Tuesday, October 27 at 5 p.m.
• Pickett: Thursday, October 30 at 5 p.m.

Community Collaboration in Action
SAISD leaders say the process is about ensuring former campuses continue serving as community anchors, even after students and staff have transitioned elsewhere. The district hopes these meetings will strengthen collaboration between SAISD and neighborhood residents, aligning redevelopment plans with community needs.
“If you live in the neighborhoods of the schools listed, we want to hear from you,” district officials stated in their announcement.
Keeping Neighborhood Spaces Active and Useful
The repurposing initiative comes as part of SAISD’s ongoing effort to reimagine vacant or underused school facilities into spaces that benefit surrounding neighborhoods. The district continues to explore partnerships with nonprofits, local organizations, and educational groups that can offer resources, programming, and services that strengthen families and communities.
