SAISD CHOICE SCHOOLS ARE … YOUR CHOICE

Choice Schools are a Choice

Hello SAISD Parents,

If any of our SAISD families would like to enroll their child in a Choice School, now is the time to start the application process. Parents, all the information about what each Choice School offers from Pre-k to 12th grade is at saisdchoice.com. These schools offer different types of learning and training to become an EMT, STEM, and much more. These schools are also open to students who don’t live in our local district.

Unfortunately, all these paths to finding a better education have also caused some students to walk away from extracurricular activities. As this school year is ending, so is the Friday Night Football season. Parents, I understand that all these other schools offer job training. Associate Degrees which are excellent, but our sports teams, band, and most fine arts programs are becoming smaller by the minute. We must remember that participating in fine arts and sports can help children develop a better aspect of teamwork. It can also help our children because everyone has to pass to play, and it helps release some of the stress they face daily. To be clear, I am not saying they should not go to one of these Choice Schools. What I am saying is, what will happen when the fields are empty, and the music has stopped playing?

We must remember that even if our child attends a Choice School, they still face STAAR testing and other academic classes. So being in something that brings joy to their hearts is something I am willing to invest in all day. We have to ensure that our children have the opportunities to play sports, sing in the choir and march in a band. These things will help our children get an excellent education and balance their mental health.
