SAISD BOARD MEMBER ABSENT FROM COMMUNITY, PRESENT AT CELEBRATIONS

Many Questions Bubbling Around The Community: Are Our Children Getting The Attention They Deserve From Their School Board?

SAISD School Board VP, Alicia Sebastian, Needs to Hear From You

Hello SAISD Parents,

This past week the State Board of Education tried to pass new laws to help or possibly create more issues for our teachers and students, yet, as we all know, in time our SAISD school board will have to review whatever rules our state puts into place. We need to reach out to our local school board trustee and our Vice President, Alicia Sebastian (formerly Alicia Perry), to ask what happens next at the local level. We also need to ask if there will be any policy changes or if we will have enough teachers and staff to run our schools. Then, of course, we need to know if our schools will return to wearing uniforms or what type of dress code will be enforced. We also need to ask Ms. Sebastian how she will help our current principals, teachers, and staff deal with the disciplinary issues that many schools are going through today

If we look at all these issues, we can see a pattern.  We see that our trustee will be available and attend all the ceremonies that celebrate some of our students, but the students falling behind don’t receive any attention.  I understand that our educational system nationwide is in a crisis. Yet I feel it essential that we start working with our local school board because, as they say, “It starts at home,” so it’s time to remind our School Board Trustee and Vice president Ms. Sebastian that our schools are technically in her House. Parents, please contact Ms. Sebastian at asebastian1@saisd.net to ensure your concerns and those mentioned above are being duly attended to.  She is in the position to inform and keep you abreast, you voted for her, so do not be shy to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Lastly, I encourage all of my parents to ask more questions because we must get all the correct answers to help our children become Superstar Students. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please email me at lena.lopez@saoberver.com.
