Fiesta season means parades, music, and a whirlwind of excitement — and no one feels the rhythm of Fiesta quite like the student musicians of SAISD.
While most school districts in Bexar County choose either the Battle of Flowers Parade or the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, SAISD’s seven comprehensive high school bands do both. The beloved Sam Houston Band showed up and opened Fiesta at “Fiesta Fiesta” last week brining the excitement it always brings.
It’s a tradition that makes the SAISD Bands the heartbeat of Fiesta, marching downtown in the bright Friday sun and again under the electric Saturday night lights.

But before the first parade even steps off, these bands kick things into high gear Thursday night at the Fiesta Battle of the Bands at Alamo Stadium. After the competition, there’s little time to rest. An early Friday call time for the Battle of Flowers Parade is quickly followed by late-night preparations for the Flambeau Parade the next evening.
Lanier High School band director Jesse Orta, a Fiesta veteran, knows what it takes to keep his students energized through the three-day stretch.
All week, bands will be practicing after school, sharpening their sound and perfecting their steps — ready to deliver their very best in the city’s biggest celebration.

SAISD JROTC and LOTC students lead the start with the opening sign. Hawthorne Academy students and staff will be riding in a float the campus created. The SAISD Familia that perform in this illuminated parade shine bright on the streets of downtown San Antonio. You can feel the pride from the thousands in attendance, many of whom are SAISD alumni.
