The San Antonio Observer Newspaper has been awarded the Leon A. Puryear Memorial Award – Sponsor Appreciation Award by The National Bowling Association, Inc. (TNBA). TNBA was established in August 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, during a time when Black bowlers and other non-Caucasian athletes were banned from participating in the American Bowling Congress (ABC) and Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC).
