SA Observer Honored with Sponsor Appreciation Award from The National Bowling Association (TNBA)
The San Antonio Observer Newspaper has been awarded the Leon A. Puryear Memorial Award – Sponsor Appreciation Award by The National Bowling Association, Inc. (TNBA). TNBA was established in August 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, during a time when Black bowlers and other non-Caucasian athletes were banned from participating in the American Bowling Congress (ABC) and Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC).
League members expressed gratitude for a paper that highlights cultural, social, and newsworthy events that directly impact their lives. According to the citation, the Observer “keeps many of its readers current with the history of our city and its culture,” while focusing on issues that matter and stories that affect daily life.
