PARENTS: REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY WITH iWATCH TEXAS

SAISD parents have access to a plethora of resources to help everyone have a great school year

Hello SAISD Parents,

This week I would like to go over where everyone can find the resources you or your child might need this school year. if you go to the SAISD website (www.saisd.net), you will see the Systems of Care for Families; clicking on that tab will take you to different helpful resources. Suppose your child needs help with their work; you can click on Academic Resources; it will also give you information on the Athletics, Fine Arts & After School Programs, English Learners & Dual Language, Graduation & College Readiness, Instruction, Students with Disabilities, and 24/7 Tutoring and learning from home. Under Family Needs will help you find the right resources for Childcare, Family Engagement & Concern Resolution, New to the District, and Teenage Parent Programs. Next is the Household Essentials Resources, whose primary goal is to support the well-being and safety of all SAISD families. When you click on this area, it will take you too many resources that help you with Food & Clothing, Housing & Utilities, Job Assistance, Legal Assistance, Medical & Dental Resources, and School Supplies.

The Mental Health resource, which helps you find the right social, emotional, and psychological help that your family might need is also found at saisd.net. Here, you can discover Behavioral Support, Bullying, Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Grief & Bereavement, and Suicide Prevention & Support. All of these resources will help everyone find the right place that will be able to address any concerns you might have this school year.

If anyone wants to report suspicious activity, go to “iWatchTexas” at iwatchtx.org/index.html or call 1-844-643-2251. This is a place where all reporting can be done anonymously. I hope this will help our parents and students have a successful school year.

One last note: TEA released their A-F school ratings; overall, SAISD received a B. As for our Eastside schools, Sam Houston high school received a B, MLK Academy received a C, Dorie Miller Elementary received a C, Douglass Elementary received a B, and Hirsch and Davis were not rated. Parents, I want all of you to know that all our teachers and staff are working hard to bring up their school’s rating at all times. So, if you feel that your child is not doing well, please email the teacher and also look at all the resources that SAISD offers all of its students. Lastly, parents, you can find resources to help you further your education or find a job training program.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please email at lena.lopez@saobserver.com. Parents remember that we must work as a team so that all of our children receive the best education.

Have a Blessed Week, Lena Lopez
