On September 28, Federal Judge Xavier Rodriguez ruled that parts of Texas’s Voter Security Law (SB1) were unconstitutional. The ruling states that Texas can no longer criminally investigate voter assistance efforts, citing violations of free speech and the 14th amendment.
Under this provision, individuals who assist mail-in voters for compensation could face penalties, up to ten years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
