Ready To Work Program Expands Eligibility

Ready to Work Program Expands Eligibility to Include Bexar County Military Community

Pilot program provides professional training and job placement to transitioning active-duty service members, veterans, spouses, and dependents

The City of San Antonio’s workforce initiative, Ready to Work, has expanded eligibility to include military-connected individuals living throughout Bexar County, effective May 1. The new pilot program allows active-duty service members who are transitioning to civilian life and who currently reside within Bexar County to enroll in Ready to Work. Dependents of active-duty military members, veterans and their dependents, and Reservists and National Guard members may also participate. For active-duty service members, the Ready to Work income eligibility cap is waived.

“We are very excited about the potential benefit this will have on our veteran and military community here in Military City USA,” said Mike Ramsey, Executive Director of Workforce Development. “Extending Ready to Work’s eligibility criteria to include military-connected individuals throughout Bexar County also will expand the talent pool for our ever-growing group of pledged employers.”

“Once again, Military City USA has proven its tangible commitment to enhancing the quality of life for military families,” said Major General (USMC, Ret) Juan Ayala, Director, Military and Veteran Affairs Department. “Expanding Ready to Work will ensure that more transitioning veterans and family members can train and compete for well-paid jobs and remain in our community.”

Ready to Work is designed to help remove financial, social and emotional barriers for qualified adults committed to earning industry-recognized certifications, Associate’s Degrees, or Bachelor’s Degrees. Participants have access to:

·       Tuition assistance aligned with targeted occupations in high-demand, well-paid careers;

·       Support services and emergency assistance to ensure training completion; and

·       Job placement and retention services.
