PUBLICLY SHARING STORIES OF OUR NEIGHBORS

Online portal to aid community during times of collective trauma through the healing power of stories

A new online portal that gathers, honors and publicly shares the stories of our community to build compassion, create community, reduce isolation, and empower individuals and families was launched Sunday, September 11.

The portal – San Antonio Story Collaborative – will go live through www.StoryPortalSATX.org at a community gathering and modeling of healing in community via storytelling. Storytelling has the power to transform both story sharers and listeners.

“We’re all sitting in collective trauma together,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. “From the pandemic to mass shootings and so many things in between, it’s going to take courage, but we’ve got to step up and act – as a city, as individuals, and as communities. We need to each act responsibly and recognize how our self-care and mental wellness impact the healing of community. Compassion is never a sole or individual effort.”

Research shows that community healing consists of three key psychological dimensions – connectedness, collective memory, and critical consciousness.
