Historic Polo Match Rides Back Into Brackenridge Park This Weekend
A piece of San Antonio’s history rides back into view this weekend as the 3rd Annual Polo in the Park returns to Brackenridge Park on Sunday, March 22.
Hosted by the Brackenridge Park Conservancy in partnership with the San Antonio Polo Club and First Tee Greater San Antonio, the event brings polo back to its original home — the historic Brackenridge Park Polo Field — for a community-centered afternoon of sport, style, and local pride.
The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. and is free to attend, with food trucks on site and optional VIP experiences available for those seeking premium seating and catering.
A Tradition Revived
Polo in Brackenridge Park dates back more than a century. In the 1920s, the San Antonio Polo Club established the field, drawing crowds for matches between civilian and military teams. By the 1930s, the sport had become a signature part of the city’s social scene, highlighted by the Lucchese Cup tournament.

Generations of local families helped shape the sport’s legacy in San Antonio, with matches continuing at the park through the late 1980s.
After decades away, polo made its return in 2024 during the park’s 125th anniversary. This weekend’s event continues that revival, reconnecting the city with a tradition rooted in both sport and community gathering.
What to Expect
This year’s Polo in the Park will feature an exhibition match with legacy polo families, along with live music, special guests, and interactive experiences designed for all ages.
Attendees can also take part in a hat contest and best-dressed showcase, with organizers encouraging guests to lean into classic equestrian fashion — from statement hats to tailored blazers and sundresses.
The event blends history with modern-day energy, offering a space where longtime residents and new visitors alike can experience a unique part of San Antonio culture.
General admission is free and guests are encouraged to RSVP here.
