30th Anniversary Sneakers from PlayStation and Reebok

PS1-Inspired Reebok Sneakers Drop This October

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary by going straight for sneakerheads’ hearts. Sony has teamed up with Reebok for a set of shoes inspired by the original PS1 design—because nostalgia sells, and these kicks might as well come with a memory card slot.

The collection drops in October, featuring three regional designs tied to the PS1’s global launch: Japan gets the InstaPump Fury 94, the U.S. gets the Pump Omni Zone II, and the U.K. rounds it out with the Workout Plus. Each pair features the familiar gray tones, colored button accents, and subtle branding that’ll make ‘90s gamers grin like they just found a mint-condition Crash Bandicoot disc.

A 400-Page Glimpse Into PlayStation’s Design History

But Sony isn’t stopping at footwear. The company is also dropping PlayStation: The First 30 Years, a hefty photography book chronicling the brand’s evolution from the blocky PS1 days to the sleek PS5 era. Clocking in at 400 pages and weighing 11 pounds, the book showcases “never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches, and design models” from across the console generations.

Several PlayStation controller concepts (Sony/Read-Only Memory)

Fans will see early PlayStation designs that looked more like scientific equipment than gaming hardware—one prototype even earned the comparison of a “proton pack.” Controller experiments get their moment, too, including bizarre pre-PS3 mockups that look more like alien artifacts than ergonomic devices.

A Pricey Tribute for Hardcore Fans

Printed on heavyweight matte art stock, the book comes in two editions. The standard version sells for $182, while a $467 deluxe edition includes a foil-stamped clamshell box, exposed binding, and a signed photographic print by Teiyu Goto and Benedict Redgrove. Only 1,994 deluxe copies will be produced, marking the PS1’s 1994 launch year.

Both editions will ship in spring 2026 through Read-Only Memory, the publisher partnering with Sony for the release.

The Legacy Continues

Between collectible sneakers and high-end coffee table books, Sony is turning its 30th anniversary into a merchandising masterclass. It’s part nostalgia trip, part art exhibit—a reminder that the PlayStation legacy isn’t just about gaming. It’s design, culture, and the unmistakable click of that power-on chime that started it all.
