Angel Reese Cheers as Her Brother Julian Joins Lakers Summer League
Basketball star Angel Reese is celebrating big family news: her brother, Julian Reese, has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA Summer League following the 2025 NBA Draft.
Julian, a 6-foot-9 forward who played four seasons at the University of Maryland, went undrafted but quickly landed a Summer League deal with the Lakers. During his college career, he averaged 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior and became just the second player in Maryland history to record over 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Angel reacted to the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a proud and simple message:
“OPPORTUNITY,” Reese wrote in an X post Friday. “COME ON JU.”
Their mother also celebrated the signing online, sharing a graphic of Julian’s announcement and highlighting the family’s excitement.
Julian stayed committed to Maryland through a coaching change and played a leadership role on and off the court. His coach praised him earlier this year:
That was really the biggest thing, he wanted to get his degree from the University of Maryland because he’s a Maryland kid… And third, he was loyal. … He knew that he had a home and that he had a guy who was going to take care of him.
With the Lakers adding a mix of young talent to their Summer League roster, Julian now has the opportunity to prove himself on the pro stage.
Angel Reese, a rising star in the WNBA, continues to shine in her second season with the Chicago Sky. She’s averaging a double-double and remains one of the league’s most talked-about players. Now, it’s her brother’s turn to step into the spotlight.
