2023 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Talent Hunt Psi Alpha, Alpha Delta Lambda, and Xi Delta Chapters
The Psi Alpha, Alpha Delta Lambda, and Xi Delta Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity hosted its annual Talent Hunt where area high school students can demonstrate their single-category artistic abilities. The Talent Hunt was held on February 18th at 1:00 pm at UTSA’s Buena Vista Theater.
Mr. Aaron De Leon, a senior at Samuel V. Champion High School, was awarded $250 third place for his playing of “Three Preludes” on his piano. Mr. Louis Geer, a senior at Basis Shavano High School, was awarded $500 second place for his playing of “Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement”. Mr. Samuel Igbo, a junior at Boerne High School, was awarded $750 first place for his playing of “Fantasie No. 1” on his violin.
Young Leaders of Tomorrow
On Saturday, 25 February 2023 at 9:00 am, Psi Alpha Chapter held its first in-person Youth Leadership (YL) and Omega STEM Conference at St. Philips College in over three years. The event was attended by approximately forty-seven (47+) youths, fifteen (15+) parents, and twenty-five (25+) brothers alike virtually and physically. The theme for this year’s conference was Building a Foundation for Greatness.
BBBS: James L. Blair Award Recipient 2023
On 23 Feb 23, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Texas (BBBS) held its Black History Month Mixer at Estancia del North Hotel. BBBS presented the James L. Blair award to a mentor in honor of the late member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Bro. James Blair. This year’s recipient of the award was Mr. Stewart Blanton. He shared the joys and sorrows of being a mentor, but focused on how much being a mentor can change the outcome of a young man or woman.
