All five former Memphis Police officers charged with the murder of Tyre Nichols have pled not guilty.
Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith appeared in Criminal Court Division 3 before Judge James Jones on Friday, February 17, 2023, just over a month after Tyre Nichols died at a Memphis hospital.
Authorities said the five former Memphis Police officers were the same officers seen on camera beating Nichols after an attempted traffic stop on January 7, 2023.
In addition to second-degree murder, the officers have been charged with with aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.
They are all out on bond.
