Beckham Slams NFL Safety Standards After Malik Nabers’ ACL Injury
Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t holding back after New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL during Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium. Beckham, who has a history with the stadium as a former Giant, posted on X urging the NFL to stop using artificial turf.
“Dear @NFL, I mean this with the upmost love and respect… PLZ. PLZ. PLZ. GET RID OF THE TURF,” Beckham wrote, adding that the league takes every precaution for player health except when it comes to the field surface.
MetLife’s Turf Under Fire—Again
Nabers, just 22 years old, went down awkwardly on his right knee attempting a deep catch from quarterback Jaxson Dart. An MRI confirmed a torn ACL, ending his season. It’s the latest in a string of devastating injuries at MetLife, a venue players across the league have nicknamed “DeathLife.”
Beckham followed up with another post: “I loveeeee the Giants, but DeathLife has taken too many talented players away from the game… At least can we start the discussion.”
Turf vs. Grass Debate Intensifies
MetLife Stadium replaced its turf system in 2023, but the change hasn’t silenced criticism. Players argue turf increases the risk of non-contact injuries, while the NFL continues to insist the surface meets safety standards. High-profile ACL tears and joint injuries, however, have kept the controversy alive.
The Giants placed Nabers on injured reserve Monday. He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming weeks, cutting short a season that was supposed to be his breakout year.
