Every Slave Owner Should Have Been Executed
Every slave owner should have been executed, their property burned, or given to freed slaves. The crimes of American slave owners should not have gone unpunished and ignored for the horrible crimes they committed against Black men, women, and children. These crimes included hanging, burning alive, torture, beatings, separating families, destroying culture, and the loss of life due to starvation, poor hygiene, and no medical treatment.
Additionally, those responsible for digging up Black bodies from cemeteries, and selling them to medical schools should have also been executed. Instead, the North forgave the slave owning states and let them create black codes, Jim Crow law, and segregation. As a result, bigots are now roaming the streets with red hats and guns. Slave owners escaped justice and their heirs in the world of today are trying to enhance that horrid legacy with lies.
From Chains to Bed & Breakfast Check-In: Rebranding Racism
The recent fire that destroyed the Nottoway Plantation, which burned to the ground, was hurtful to some, but to the great majority of Black folk it was a big HOORAY! These structures are around and often the ancestors try to hide the past of their relatives. A slave mansion cannot be just a “resort.”
The Morill-Poor Plantation on the Southside of San Antonio where an unknown Black cemetery is located is an example of hiding horror. It is also the case of the area formally known as Mitchell Lake, which is now a bird sanctuary, with little mention that slaves labored there for Asa Mitchell, who was also a slave catcher for Bexar County in the 1800s.
Asa Mitchell: A “Preacher” or a White Supremacist?
According to the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA), Asa Mitchell:
“Engaged successfully in merchandising, interested himself in local political affairs, and on occasion substituted in the Methodist pulpit as a lay preacher. During the Civil War he directed the controversial activities of the San Antonio Vigilance Committee, which partially superseded the indifferent law enforcement agencies of the period.”
Without saying the truth, Asa Mitchell is poo pooed by sugar coating his role as a pro-slavery white supremacist. This is how today’s bigots attempt to hide the horrible past of their ancestors. This does not mean that they are like their past ancestors, because many reject what their relatives did, but others try to hide these crimes by sugar coating slavery, turning slave mansions into bed and breakfast places, or resorts.
A Fire That Told the Truth
The burning of the Nottoway Plantation was a symbol that needed to be gone, as what often happens to places like this is to create fake stories about “how happy slaves were.” There was nothing happy about slavery. The loss of Nottoway Plantation house is being heralded as a “loss“ for Iberville Parish in the State of Louisiana. It was supposedly the largest antebellum mansion remaining in the South, making it a symbol of hatred and was not just about a loss for tourists.
Tour Guides and the Script of Lies
Tourists are often the most ignorant people alive as they get brainwashed over and over again by less than honest tour guides. Tour guides in San Antonio do the same thing when they have ignorant rookie readings from a fake history script. They never want to talk about slavery in San Antonio unless it is sugar coated. It might have been sad to the property owners, but not to those who know the real history of slavery and white supremacy.
Many internet posts are celebrating the burning of this horrid ghost of a structure. Rebranding a slave owner mansion as a “resort” speaks to the diabolical racism that seeks to hide the crimes of slavery.
