The Spurs Improved to 15-3 Against the Eastern Conference After Defeating the Top-Seeded Pistons
The Spurs extended their winning streak to nine games following Monday’s 114-103 road win against the Eastern Conference leading Detroit Pistons.
Veteran guard Devin Vassell lead all scorers with 28 points including seven threes. He was 10-14 shooting from the field and 7-11 beyond the arc.
V-Dub struggled offensively as the Pistons did their best to contain the super Frenchman with physical play. He finished the game with a solid performance however with 21 points and 17 rebounds. His contributions on the defensive end were immeasurable though as he finished with six blocks.
Stephon Castle had a double-double with 16 points and a game high 11 assists. Julian Champagnie chipped in another 17 points for the Spurs.
Big man Jalen Duren paced the Pistons with 25 points on 10-13 shooting from the field with 14 rebounds. MVP candidate Cade Cunningham had a double-double with 16 points and a team high 10 assists.
They say the playoffs don’t begin until after the All-Star Break. With a little over 25 games remaining in the 2025-26 season teams from both conferences jockey for final playoff positioning.
Potential Finals Matchup
Monday’s contest was a preview of a potential Finals matchup between the two teams with a lot at stake. The Pistons for their part came into game looking to shore up their position as the overall top seed with just a half game lead over Oklahoma City. Meanwhile the Spurs hold fast in second place in the Western Conference just three games behind the top seeded Thunder.
If the Silver and Black can somehow get through the gauntlet of the West they stand a good shot at defeating whomever they’d face in the Finals. The Spurs are 15-3 this season against the Eastern Conference losing two games to my Cavs and once to New York. The team has also proven they can handle the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the West holding a 4-1 series lead over the champs.
