Nicki Minaj Praises Trump at Turning Point USA Conference

At the AmericaFest Conference in Phoenix, Nicki Minaj Praised Trump and Backed Conservative Leaders

Nicki Minaj stunned attendees at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference in Phoenix on Sunday with a surprise onstage appearance that quickly turned into a full-throated endorsement of Donald Trump. According to CNN, the rapper joined Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk for a live conversation, using the moment to express admiration for Trump and other conservative leaders.

“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,” Minaj told the crowd. She credited Trump with giving people “hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win — and to do it with your head held high.”

Minaj also leaned into a personal connection, pointing out that both she and Trump are from Queens, New York. She framed his political rise as a lesson in resilience, saying it showed her that even when life feels irredeemable, a comeback is still possible.

Appearing ahead of Vice President JD Vance, Minaj praised both men for what she described as their ability to connect with everyday people. According to her, Trump and Vance share “a very uncanny ability to be someone that you relate to,” a sentiment that landed to loud applause inside the conference hall.

The conversation also revisited Minaj’s recent attacks on California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Reading directly from her own social media posts, she doubled down on her rhetoric, repeating a message that referred to the governor as “Newscum” and warning him to “tread lightly.”

When asked why she has chosen to speak publicly about politics at this stage of her career, Minaj said it came down to exhaustion with being silenced or dismissed. “I got tired of being pushed around,” she said. “At some point you realize you have something inside of you that’s stronger than what’s out there. I’m not going to back down anymore. I’m not going to back down ever again.”

While the appearance surprised many, it did not come out of nowhere. In recent months, Minaj has been increasingly vocal about her admiration for Trump and her alignment with conservative causes. Just last month, she spoke at a New York event focused on what organizers described as the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. At that gathering, she was introduced by U.S. ambassador Mike Waltz and publicly thanked both Waltz and Trump for their involvement.

Minaj’s presence at AmericaFest highlights the growing overlap between celebrity culture and partisan politics, especially as entertainers use their platforms to make explicit ideological statements.

For some fans, her comments reflect a political evolution she has been previewing online for years. For others, they signal a sharper break from expectations traditionally placed on artists within mainstream hip-hop.
