NBA Power Rankings: Spurs Snap Streak, But Do They Move Up?

The San Antonio Spurs now longer hold the league’s worst losing streak. Does that prompt a rise in this week’s power rankings?

The San Antonio Spurs are coming off one of their worst losses of the season against the league-worst Houston Rockets.

After winning a pair of games following a franchise-worst 16-game losing streak, there was hope that the Spurs could escape the basement in this week’s power rankings. However, after a pair of losses to the Rockets this weekend, including a 32-point stinger on Sunday, the Spurs remain dead last in this week’s power rankings from Sports Illustrated.

“Immediately after the Spurs lost a franchise-record 16 straight games, they turned around and won two in a row for the first time since December,” SI writes. “Rookie Jeremy Sochan led the team with 22 points in a convincing win over the Pacers that coach Gregg Popovich missed due to an illness days after a win against the Jazz. San Antonio played Houston twice over the weekend and lost by 12 at home and 32 on the road, though the Spurs are still a half game up on the last-place Rockets.”

Now, the Spurs are in the midst of four days of rest before the Western Conference’s top-seeded Denver Nuggets come to town on Friday. The week ends with a visit from the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.
