After a fierce fight with cancer Bryce Wisdom passed away Sunday evening, he was 17. Bryce was a student at Judson High School and a top football competitor until diagnosed during his sophomore year. Bryce ignited our San Antonio communities compassion. A massive following of his journey and supporting the family became quickly evident on social media. Talk show host Ellen showed her continued support for #brycestrong along with PEOPLE magazine featuring Bryce’s journey. Tre Flowers, cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks is also one who supported Bryce nationally. Bryce was a beacon of hope, a ray of light and a storm of motivation for others as they watched him fight with a smile and carry his motto flag- #BryceStrong, this caught the nation’s attention, not just our community in the Judson neighborhood.
Former Judson ISD Board member, Jose Macias Jr., shared his sentiment on the passing of Bryce, “He was so very loved and supported. He inspired the community with his drive to fight, his smile, and his spirit for life. We lost a part of Judson ISD today.”
At this moment, hundreds of people are losing their lives in the U.S. due to the Covid-19 pandemic, yet Bryce’s- #BryceStrong Motto is ringing loud around the nation. Last Friday the family shared Bryce’s journey on social media. They updated the #BryceStrong Family that Bryce was rushed to the hospital and had suffered a collapsed lung and “his pain was unbearable.” The news of his passing was posted and shared by his mother Diana Wisdom.
We are praying for Bryce’s family. A mother’s heart is her children and we ask God to comfort Diana Wisdom, all of his family and those he touched throughout the world. This community is hurting a lot. In the midst of the Black Lives Matter Movement, a National Pandemic, and the news of Bryce it’s almost too much to digest.
