MLK SCHOLARSHIP ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS UNTIL FEB 2022

MLK SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Each year, as part of its celebration and focus on youth and education, the MLK, Jr. Commission administers a Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program. These scholarships help to fund a portion of the college tuition for several deserving students, regardless of race or ethnicity. Each year, the MLK, Jr. Commission gives thousands of dollars in scholarships, thanks to the support of its many partners. The COSA MLK Commission does not have sponsorship affiliation with Dreamweek nor the San Antonio MLK Foundation. VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS
The MLK Scholarship Program Committee invites all Graduating Bexar County High School Seniors to participate in the MLK Scholarship Virtual Workshop. These workshops are designed to educate students on how to navigate the MLK Scholarship process. Students are supplied with the tools and resources that will help them stand out in an applicant pool and maximize their scholarship success. Register and attend a virtual workshop (space is limited).

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The online 2022 MLK Scholarship Applications are being accepted November 22, 2022 – February 25, 2022.

DEADLINE
The online scholarship application must be submitted by Friday, February 25, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible an applicant must:

Complete and submit the online application.
Be a graduating Senior for the current upcoming year.
Complete all application items, including the required essay. Do not leave any blanks. For items is not applicable, write “N/A” or “none.”
Include two letters of recommendation. The letters must be written by one of the following:
a. Counselor or teacher of an academic course.
b. Your employer, clergy person or extra-curricular sponsor (Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, pep squad sponsor, etc.)
Submit an official high school transcript through midterm of the school year. Transcripts must be submitted via email at MLK@sanantonio.gov by the application deadline, March 19, 2021. Transcripts can also be mailed directly from the school to:

Interviews will be conducted with all finalists. Interviews will be scheduled by the MLK Commission Scholarship Committee. Finalists will be contacted about the interview date and time.
A complete application submission must include the following:
a. Completed MLK Scholarship Application form
b. Two letters of recommendation
c. Official transcript postmarked by application deadline

*Items a. and b. must be submitted together electronically. Only official transcript may be mailed in.
