LSEG Fires Employee After Viral Video Shows Racial Harassment of Teen in Florida

Stephen Carega is Fired After Video Shows Him Following Teen in Florida

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has fired an employee, Stephen Carega, after investigating a viral video showing him and others following a Black teenager in a Florida neighborhood. The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many criticizing the behavior as reminiscent of Jim Crow-era racism.

According to the teen’s mother, the videos were recorded by her son while he walked around their neighborhood, which had lost power after Hurricane Milton. In the footage, several men, including Carega, follow the boy, questioning his presence and calling him derogatory names, including “loser.” One man referenced a previous interaction between the teen and his wife.

After suspending Carega during the investigation, LSEG released a statement confirming his termination. “We expect the conduct of our employees to meet a high standard,” the company stated, adding that it maintains a “zero-tolerance policy against racism, discrimination, prejudice, or harassment.” The videos, which have received millions of views on TikTok, prompted calls for accountability across LSEG’s social media channels.

Carega has not responded to requests for comment.
