Lil Jon Opens Up About Black Men, Healing & Happiness

The Atlanta Legend Got Candid During a Recent Interview About His Journey Toward Self-Care, Healing, and Inspiring Others to Do the Same

Lil Jon, the Atlanta hitmaker who helped define the crunk era, is now preaching something entirely different—peace, healing, and purpose. In a recent sit-down on The Breakfast Club, the 54-year-old artist broke down while reflecting on his journey to inner peace, telling host Charlamagne Tha God, “Black men, we need to cry more.”

He said everything changed when he hit 50. “I asked myself, ‘What makes you happy?’ I couldn’t really tell myself,” Lil Jon admitted. “So I was like, ‘You know what? I need to kind of put myself first.’”

What followed was a complete transformation—daily meditation, therapy, and the release of two guided meditation albums, Total Meditation and Manifest Abundance: Affirmations for Personal Growth, both in 2024.

‘Doing What God Intended Me to Do’

Lil Jon described this period of his life as one filled with clarity and gratitude. “I’ve given people positivity,” he said. “Now, when someone tells me, ‘You helped me meditate,’ that means more than any club anthem I ever made.”

The rapper said his new focus on health and mindfulness has inspired others, including fellow celebrities, to get in shape and care for their mental well-being. “It’s insane how many people call me about getting in the gym,” he said. “I feel like I’m doing what God intended me to do.”

Breaking the Silence

During the emotional moment, Lil Jon urged Black men to reject the idea that strength means silence. “We don’t have to be tough all the time. We suffer in silence,” he said. “Call your homie sometimes. Ask, ‘How are you mentally doing, bro?’ That one little conversation could make him not go do some stupid s—t or take his life.”

He went on to encourage therapy, meditation, and mutual support among men. “Any knowledge I got, I try to share with everybody, because we got to help each other. We all we got.”

A Legacy Beyond the Music

Once known for high-energy party anthems, Lil Jon is now using his platform to spark something deeper: healing. His vulnerability, honesty, and willingness to speak on mental health mark a new chapter—not just for him, but for the culture.

As he put it, “When you get more in tune to your higher self and stop vibrating at these low frequencies, you can let the energy flow.”
