Join Brackenridge Park Conservancy For Its 2nd Annual Family & Friends Fishing Day

Fish the San Antonio River, stocked with over 600 native catfish from Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Brackenridge Park Conservancy News – Come drop a line in the San Antonio River and see what you hook. Join Brackenridge Park Conservancy for its annual Family & Friends Fishing Day on Saturday, October 28. This second annual event is free and open to the public. More than 600 channel catfish will be released in the San Antonio River for junior anglers, their parents and avid fishermen to enjoy.

Those aged 5-16 will be able to sign up for a fishing etiquette class taught by Fin Addict Angler Foundation instructors and volunteers and use fishing rods and reels for the morning. Youth will be taught the basics of fishing through fun educational methods.

Registered children will be supplied bait for fishing, while supplies last, and have assigned fishing areas if using loaner fishing equipment. A fishing rod loaner program is available for class participants, while supplies last, with adult ID retainer and $10 cash deposit. People can fish the whole day with their own fishing equipment and bait.

Those who only want to fish may go anywhere along the river and drop a line. Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) has granted exemption to the fishing license for those who fish or volunteer to assist with this event on October 28th from 9am to 1pm. This exemption is valid only in the area of the event and only for the date and time of the event. All other TPWD Rules and Regulations apply.

BPC encourages comfortable outdoor clothing and plenty of sun protection.

Thank you to BPC sponsor Claire Vaughan and Big Give Friends for supporting BPC’s Big Give SA’s 2023 fundraiser which was dedicated to hosting this Family & Friends Fishing Day as an annual event. This event is one of many free programs presented by the BPC.

BPC is partnering with TPWD, City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, Fin Addict Angler Foundation, and San Antonio River Authority.
