“It Takes A Village To Raise A Child”, San Antonio’s Jasmine L. Blair Earns Her Doctor of Medicine Degree

TX – Psi Alpha – Mission Accomplished, Dr. Jasmine L. Blair Moves onto Residency After Graduating Medical School

By: Scott L. Earle, Sr. – In the world of Fraternities and Sororities, the word legacy is always used.  Although Mrs. Shawana Freeman-Blair shares a legacy of Delta Sigma Theta with her daughter Dr. (MD) Jasmine L. Blair they share a Psi Alpha legacy that many do not know of.  Brother Sidney Freeman- Ω, ψΑ- 71 our past KRS and Chaplain, to name a few of his elected, offices raised Shawana at all their events the same way Brother James L. Blair- Ω, ΤΔ-81 our 25th Basileus raised Jasmine around us until his untimely death in 2011.   This is the legacy of Brothers- allowing us to be true uncles to their children in the best and worst of circumstances throughout life.

Jasmine graduated from Meharry Medical College on May 20, 2023, receiving her Doctor of Medicine Degree.  Her mother and Soror, Shawana Blair has done a fantastic job raising Jasmine after losing the love of her life unexpectedly in 2011.  She ensured Jasmine had a full career at Antonian Catholic College Preparatory High School and then went on to her dad’s favorite college at the University of Alabama graduating both with honors.

After a death many move on with life, but the Freeman-Blair’s stayed apart with Psi Alpha ensuring her “uncles” stayed a part of her life.  It was an honor when Jasmine won the 2014 Psi Alpha Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and to watch her from Undergrad and Medical School graduation is beautiful.

Shawana has shared all her accomplishments with us the way her dad ensured her accomplishments were shared with the Chapter when she was growing up.

Shawana always stresses they never would have made it without the love and support of our Heavenly Father God, family, and dear friends like us. The old African proverb is true… It does take a village to raise a child.  The Freeman-Blair legacy has been a part of the fabric of Psi Alpha for over fifty-two (52) years.

Jasmine has graduated and will move to Houston, TX for her OB/GYN residency program at UT Health Houston, McGovern Medical School.

Brothers and community, let’s continue to uplift and pray for Jasmine for her future successes in all her endeavors.

Congratulations Jasmine!

ΨΑ STRONG!!!
