Jasmine Crockett Scores Cardi B Endorsement Ahead of Texas Primary

“If You Want Somebody That’s Going to Fight for Your Rights, Please Vote for My Sister,” the Hip Hop Superstar Urged Texas Voters

With just days before Texas voters head to the polls, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett has secured a high profile endorsement from hip hop superstar Cardi B, who is urging Texans to cast their ballots in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

In a video posted to Crockett’s social media, Cardi B, born Belcalis Almánzar, encouraged early voters to rally behind the Dallas congresswoman.

“Early primary voting is happening right now in Texas, and we need Jasmine Crockett to win,” Cardi B said. “If you want somebody that’s going to fight for your rights, if you want somebody to fight for your community, if you want somebody that’s going to go up there and represent you and represent your issues, please vote for my sister.”

The Grammy winning artist, currently on her Little Miss Drama Tour, emphasized the urgency of the moment. “She’s going to fight whoever she has to so your voice and your problems could be heard. Vote right now. This counts so much.”

Tight Democratic Primary Against James Talarico

Crockett faces a competitive Democratic primary against Texas State Rep. James Talarico. The contest has grown increasingly tense in recent weeks.

Talarico, who has denied making an offensive racial remark attributed to him, has faced scrutiny as the race intensifies. At the same time, Crockett’s critics have questioned whether she can win a statewide general election in Texas, a state that has historically favored Republican candidates in U.S. Senate races.

Supporters of Crockett argue those doubts are rooted in racial and gender bias.

“No one is looking at the credentials,” Crockett previously said. “Holler at me and say that you have an issue as relates to my credentials.” Before serving in Congress, she worked as a civil rights attorney, public defender, and Texas state representative.

Cardi B is not the only entertainer backing Crockett’s campaign. Rapper Method Man, gospel singer Kim Burrell, and singer and actress Kelly Rowland have also publicly endorsed her bid.

Standing beside Crockett in a video message, Rowland urged Texans to participate in the democratic process. “You guys have to go out and vote. You know what to do…you have a voice, just go use it,” she said.

March 3 Primary Could Make History

Texas’ primary election is set for Tuesday, March 3. The winner of the Democratic contest will advance to face the Republican nominee in November’s general election.

If elected, Crockett would become the first African American elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas. Her victory would also mark the first time in United States history that more than two Black women have served simultaneously in the Senate.

With early voting underway and national attention turning toward Texas, the race has quickly become one to watch.
