What the Record Really Shows About Jasmine Crockett’s Campaign Spending

A recent Fox News article titled “Dem rising star who called Trump ‘con man’ spent over $100K on luxury hotels, transportation, security” highlights campaign expenditures reported by Rep. Jasmine Crockett in her 2025 Federal Election Commission filings.

According to those filings, Crockett’s campaign reported just over $124,000 in combined expenses related to lodging, transportation, and private security. The records list approximately $32,000 spent on hotels, including high-end properties, roughly $11,000 on transportation services, and nearly $80,000 on private security.

These expenses are not taxpayer-funded. They are campaign expenditures, legally permitted and transparently disclosed under federal election law. For high-profile lawmakers — particularly those who travel frequently and receive threats — private security and lodging while on the road are common and often necessary costs.

What the headline framing leaves out is the broader financial context shaping American politics. While a Black congresswoman’s disclosed campaign travel is treated as scandal, far less attention is paid to the personal wealth generated by Donald Trump through hotels, resorts, licensing deals, merchandise, and other ventures tied to his political power — making his presidency one of the most financially entangled in modern history.

That imbalance is the real story. Legally reported campaign expenses are framed as excess, while documented personal enrichment tied to the presidency is normalized. Calling one accountability and ignoring the other isn’t journalism — it’s selective outrage, and voters increasingly recognize the hypocrisy.
